Let's take a moment to reflect on the past year.

2020 was a difficult year for almost everybody, in one way or another. We have shown that if we can overcome such a huge obstacle as a pandemic, then we can overcome anything. In academia, this resilience has shown itself in having to adjust research methods and analysis, as well as teaching methods in increasingly uncertain circumstances. The Autumn semester at ETH Zurich started with in-person working and teaching classes but transitioned to work-from-home and online lectures. Even we had to adapt to a new style of working!

We would like to applaud the academic community who despite such complications continued to produce insightful research and modified their research methods to the changing political, economic, societal and environmental climate. We hope that in future, many other global problems namely climate change and sustainability, can be tackled with the same vigour, and that national and international collaborations, as we have observed in the healthcare sector, continue to flourish.

Hope you have had a terrific start to the New Year and wish you all the best for 2021. Stay safe!
